Delia Balmer, an agency nurse, met Sweeney, who confessed to killing his ex-girlfriend. Ballmer rebuilt her life to confront Sweeney seven years after he was arrested for the second murder.

Based on a true crime story

The bodies were dumped in canals in Rotterdam (not Amsterdam) and London. This excellent drama is based on the true and terrifying story of Delia Ballmer.

Instead, we have Delia, who, frankly, is not a particularly nice lady

Unlike many of these real-life dramas, there are no embellishments of events or characters, nor any dynamic hero who steps in to save the day. She can be sharp, rude, quick to criticise and hurl insults – and that is before she meets John Sweeney.

She was just WOW!

However, Delia’s ordeal is so incredibly tragic that it has often brought me to tears and filled me with anger and disgust at the attitude of the police and the judicial system. Anna Maxwell Martin deserves an award for her brilliant performance.

This show is not for the faint of heart, but it is worth watching

I sincerely hope that the police and the judicial system have learned their lesson and that the victims are not treated like liars and criminals.
