American (English) remake of the French series HPI (2021)

Line of Events

It follows Morgan, a single mother of three, and how her extraordinary mind helps her solve a crime while reorganizing evidence during her shift as a cleaning lady at the police station. Despite her very high IQ, excellent memory, and deep knowledge of secrets, Morgan makes a series of fundamental legal mistakes that anyone who has ever watched The TV Legal Show will not know how to do. In the first episode, for example, she obtains a document from a locked safe at the alleged victim’s law office that would never be admissible in court—illegally obtained evidence. Nor can it be used to obtain other evidence—a violation of the legal doctrine of “fruit of the poisonous tree.” In episode 2, she has to be reminded to wear gloves before handling evidence at the crime scene, and in issue #3, she removes all documented evidence from the police station, completely breaking the chain of custody and making whatever she removed no longer admissible in court.

Remake of HPI (2021)

This series revolves around Morgan (Caitlin Olsen), a night cleaner at the Los Angeles Police Department. When she looks at a case file, it intrigues her and she makes some corrections to the commission of the murders. This leads the department to realize that she has a talent for perceiving, assimilating, and organizing facts, i.e. evidence.

They hire her as a consultant

Think Will Hunting meets Adrian Monk. Like Will, she has an exceptional IQ and a sharp mind. Like Monk, she is troubled by OCD, but not as neurotically as Monk. But she feels like she has to reconcile all the conflicting data (like an itch to scratch).

She’s also very assertive

And even though Morgan sometimes feels left out, she’s very empathetic. I really enjoy this show, even though there have been many other police procedurals where civilians with unusual talents work with cops. Morgan’s character is fun to watch. And the cases have interesting solutions.

The kids are interesting too

She also has three kids, so she’s always juggling work and family life. In the first episode, her young son helps her with her case, behind the scenes.
