Michael Schur was inspired to create “A Man On the Inside” after watching a Chilean documentary “Agent The Mole”

Charles, a retired man, gets a new lease on life when he answers an ad from a private detective and becomes a mole in an undercover investigation at a nursing home. He says: “Agent The Mole” the documentary is powerful because it makes people feel something remarkably similar, regardless of age, ethnicity or gender, and I would describe that feeling in a very reduced way as “I need to call my mom”.

I loved it!

In our show, we tried to do something similar with the tone: In general, does our show contribute to that feeling that makes us want to call our moms?. Remake of El agente topo (2020).

What I expected was a comedy full of clichés about someone going undercover, his crazy antics & and so on

Instead we get a series about a man who not only helped others but actually helped himself heal from the loss of his wife. This great series is not full of laugh out loud jokes & corny lines, during some parts I found myself really emotional because of the way the themes were handled – like the resident with memory problems.

The cast was great, the cinematography the locations are well done

However, not everything was serious, making you feel desperate or bored as you went through the episodes, this kept the series watchable because you wanted to see how it played out – Who’s stealing etc. I really hope they do another season & bring a great mix of laughs, emotions, script, location plus cast like they did in Charles’ next detective style adventures like they did in this one.
