During dialogue with Marciano in a discussion with Dr. Blake, the acronym “OBE” is incorrectly translated as “Overcome By Events.” In US government agencies, including the Intelligence Community and the Department of Defense, the correct/official explanation of the acronym “OBE” is “Overcome By Events.” The opening credits feature characters and scenes from the series intercut with mirrors. Former CIA Director of Counterintelligence James Jesus Angleton, also known as the “spy poet,” described the game of intelligence as a “Desert of Mirrors,” a phrase borrowed from a poem by T.S. Eliot called Gerontion (the title means “little old man” in Greek, and the poem is an internal monologue concerning the opinions and impressions of an older man who describes post-World War I Europe through the eyes of a man who lived most of his life in the 19th century). The Agency is a must-see for any fan of spy thrillers. First of all, the cast is absolutely incredible. It stars Michael Fassbender, Jeffery Wright, Richard Gere, and Katherine Waterston. The cast alone is reason enough to give it a try, and it’s a damn good show. I wouldn’t be surprised if this show and most of the cast are nominated for awards come awards season. The series is about an undercover CIA agent (Fassbender) who is ordered to leave his undercover life behind and return to the field with his former lover (Waterston), who he’s still in love with. His love for her begins to conflict with his real life and mission. If you’re a fan of spy thrillers or good crime series, give it a try. You won’t be disappointed.
