A modern tale of fortune seeking in the West Texas oil rig world. A landowner, at least one who works in the oil industry, will act as a middleman between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landowner’s job is to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. They basically manage the land and secure leases, so they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, worker quarters (man camp), oversee the assembly of the excavation machinery, and the drilling of the well site itself, especially in remote locations. They are also, in part, fixers, problem-solvers, and facilitators. Referenced in CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode #44.24 (2022). This could easily have been rated an 8.5 – 9. If not for the embarrassing and overly sexualized daughter and ex-wife/mother. They serve no purpose in the plot and are downright annoying and insulting to the women of West Texas. Being a man from the far West Texas myself, I understand where Sheridan is coming from in a sense, but this is awful. West Texas women are the strongest, most ambitious women I know. Other than that, the writing and acting are fantastic. Sheridan easily has another Yellowstone on her hands if she gets rid of the awkward inter-familial arousal. But then again, I love Sheridan’s writing (and acting) and overall it’s an absolutely very enjoyable show.
